I'm a GP, I've worked in the NHS for over twenty years. In that time I've seen how much of what people struggle with, anxiety, poor sleep, pain, overeating, the inability to switch off, comes down to one thing: an attention system that has lost its flexibility. Fifteen years ago I began teaching Open Focus Attention Training alongside my medical practice. I use it myself every day. It calms the mind and relaxes the body quickly, without requiring belief in anything or years of practice to feel the difference. It also helps dissolve chronic pain, reduce anxiety, support sleep, and quiet the kind of food noise that willpower alone never quite reaches. I built this attention styles based personality framework because I wanted something I could actually explain to patients, something with a mechanism, not just a method.
